Commons & Collectives

Project

Since the start of 2016 agricultural nature management is done by collectives. The main goal of this policy is to reduce costs and bureaucracy, so more money can be spent on nature management itself. Farmers, water boards, nature conservationists and provinces work together to achieve this goal. A major group has not been involved: civilians. What can civilians do to help nature and landscape management? Are farmers willing to accept their assistance? Can local governments give room to cooperative initiatives in rural areas. Is it possible to develop an effective method for civic participation on farmland? To answer these topical questions, meetings and debates are organized in this project.

To highlight the power of commons and develop methods for civic participation in the region in cooperation with local governments. 2015 - present Wim Hiemstra Dutch Farm Experience
