In order to restore and preserve our meadows and meadow birds a responsible management of farmland is required. Forty farmers in Southwest Frisia are very much aware of that. They form a cooperation since 2005; Skriezekrite (godwit-circle) Idzegea. As a cooperation, supported by several organizations, the farmers want to increase the number of meadow birds. The working area of the Skriezekrite is about 1675 hectare. Board members, Klaas Oevering and Sytse Terpstra, were amongst the founding members of King of the Meadows and Skriezekrite Idzengae is one of the main projects within ‘Living Lab for nature inclusive agriculture’. Farmers in and around Idzegea prove that profitable farming and meadow bird management can be combined. Between 2012 and 2015 Groningen University researchers studied the godwit demography in the working area of the Skriezekrite.
